Plavac from PZ Svirče from the Croatian island of Hvar is produced from a single grape variety, the famous and most important grape of Dalmatia: Plavac Mali.
Read more...Description: PZ Svirče is a wine cooperative with 220 members on Hvar, one of the biggest Croatian islands in the Adriatic Sea, just south of Split. Plavac is one of their red wines made from grapes grown in the vineyards on the northern hills of the island.
The wine is produced from a single grape variety, the famous and most important grape of Dalmatia: the Plavac Mali. This grape originated from the extinct Croatian grape Crljenak Kaštelanski that is genetically identical to the California Zinfandel.

Taste: Plavac Mali produces rich, flavourful wines with high alcohol content (up to 17%) and a lot of tannins. Flavours and aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, pepper and herbs often characterize the wines. The Plavac of PZ Svirče is not too strong or the heavy, but still rich in exceptional Plavac aromas. The wine reflects the timeless soul of the island, the warm sun and cool Croatian Adriatic.
Serve with: Plavac goes very well with meat, fish and crab.
