Winery: Vina Belje
Region: Baranja (Danube region)
Grape: Graševina (also known as Welschriesling), Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay
Year: 2023
Harvest: All grapes are picked by hand to ensure the quality of the harvest.
Vinification: Bunches of grapes for this sparkling wine are specially selected in the vineyard and in the cellar during harvest time. The wine is made according to the Charmat Method. This means that the second fermentation took place in the tank and not in the bottle as with the Methode Traditionelle. This is a faster and more affordable process; this wine is ready to drink within three months after harvest.
Taste: This lively brut is light golden yellow in color with a green sheen. It is a fresh and creamy wine with lots of beautiful little bubbles that beautifully bring out the subtle and soft aromas of green apple and a hint of peach. The aftertaste is long and silky soft. Every sip asks for more.
Serve with: This wine is fantastic as an appetizing aperitif. Fantastic with fish or fruit salads, at the BBQ and it also goes perfectly with roast turkey or lamb.
Serving temperature: 6 degrees Celsius
Alcohol percentage: 11.5%
Residual sugar: 9 g/L
Additional information: Although Vina Belje is an old winery with a cellar that is almost 500 years old, they have only been producing this modern style brut since 2021. This also indicates that a breath of fresh air is blowing at this winery and that a young generation is at the helm that wants to produce contemporary wines, but with great respect for the autochthonous grape varieties of the region.
Since it takes several years to produce traditional sparkling wines, Vina Belje has decided to use the tank method for the time being. And that has also paid off as this wine has received a bronze medal at Decanter in London.
The region of Baranja where this wine comes from is located on the border of Croatia and Hungary and is named after the viticulture that has been practiced by the local population for centuries. The originally Hungarian word 'Baranya' means 'the mother of wine'. This area includes the Baranja wine region in Croatia and the well-known Villany region in Hungary.
Despite the fact that all Vina Belje Select wines are harvested by hand, they have an excellent price-quality ratio. Few Croatian and international wines in the same price range have won as many international medals as the Belje Select wines.
Vina Belje Select wines are not only the perfect choice for (daily) shopping in wine shops, but also for bistros, beach bars, wine bars, oyster bars, grill and burger bars, pizzerias and cafes.
