Croatian wine producers make excellent orange wines. Orange wine is simply said white wine that is made in a way similar to red wine. The skins of the grapes are fermented with the juice.
With red grapes, the skin gives the red colour to the wine. In the case of white grapes, the skins give an orange colour to the wine. The colour is actually not really orange as the name suggests but rather amber.
Because the skins are also fermented, the wine mostly has tannin, the astringent 'sticky' feeling in your cheeks. This makes the wine very suitable for fine gastronomic pairings.
